Agroforestry
Herons Folly Garden is a member of the UK Agroforestry Innovation Network and the Farm Woodland Forum
in promoting the use of Agroforestry. This method of farming integrates trees among crops and livestock.
Flooding, soil nutrient loss, dust bowls and fluctuating markets are just a few of the ramifications of intensive agriculture
that the use of trees within crop production could help mitigate.
The French government has already set in motion a target of Agroforestry on 50% of farms in France by 2023.
The Soil Association and other organizations here in the UK are advocating a similar target.
With Climate Change and the need to feed an expanding population affecting the future of farming,
agroforestry will be of growing benefit.
Below are a few links with further information.

The Farm Woodland Forum
http://www.agroforestry.ac.uk/
The Farm Woodland Forum aims to facilitate the generation and exchange of information that supports best practice in and improves opportunities for farming with trees. We are an informal group of about 220 people with a common interest in farming with trees in all its aspects. Until 2003, we were known as the UK Agroforestry Forum.
The Forum holds annual meetings at which there are presentations to describe the latest research, development and practice related to agroforestry and farming with trees. There are also field visits to sites of interest. To find out more about the meetings or the benefits of membership click on the relevant link on the left side.
Charity status was conferred on the Forum on 11 January 2005.

Agroforestry Innovation Network (AFINET)
http://www.agroforestry.eu/afinet
Agroforestry (AF) is a type of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) practice of deliberately integrating woody vegetation (trees or shrubs) with crop and/or animal systems to benefit from the resulting ecological and economic interactions.
Based on the economic and environmental relevance of this activity, a consortium of 13 partners from 9 European countries, launch AFINET (AgroForestry Innovation NETworks), a thematic network aimed to foster the exchange and the knowledge transfer between scientists and practitioners in the agroforestry. AFINET will act at EU level in order to take up research results into practice and to promote innovative ideas to face challenges and resolve problems of practitioners. To achieve this objective AFINET proposes an innovative methodology based on:
